This is one of the walks in the book 'Exploring the Elizabeth Line' by Jeff Lock. It is a circular walk around Twyford exploring the River Loddon and adjacent lakes.

The walk starts at Twyford station which I reached at around 10.15. First a walk along the village streets passing the pleasant Springfield Park.

It soon leaves the village down a country lane passing the church of St James the Great. Then over the railway line.

Passing some nice cottages the lane continues for a while then I turned off it across a large field.

The path continues and becomes quite narrow between fences and reaches Waltham Road. Then a pleasant path alongside one of the new housing estates for a while.

After reaching Hurst Road this is followed for a short while then I turned off onto another path. The guide suggested a hollow along here may be impassable during winter but all was dry. At the end over a bridge the lakes come into view.

Now along Whistley Mill lane and some pleasant houses and more views of the lakes.

A pleasant path runs parallel to the road for a while. Then the road is left to follow another pleasant track with good views of the large lakes.

With the sound of trains getting louder the line is reached again and the path goes under a bridge to reach Loddon Nature Reserve.

After following round the lake the path diverts away and follows the River Loddon for the remainder of the walk.

The path here is quite narrow, very close to the lake and quite muddy so great care was needed. Not a long stretch but it took a little while to reach the housing estate at the top.

A final walk along the river and then along the main roads back into Twyford. passing over the Henley line on the way. Back at the station I caught the train back to Reading where I lunched before heading home.
